Hello pumping moommas!

Today, I am going to share with you my personal review of the three cheapest breastmilk storage bags in the Philippines: BabyTooth, Dula and Sunmum.

I am basically a storage bottle kind of moom, my baby is using Pigeon Peristaltic WideNeck and I use the Pigeon and Spectra sealing disc for it. I am a pump-today-consume-tomorrow moom but if I had to store my breastmilk for more than a day, I put it in a milk storage bag. Storage bottles can also be used to store breastmilk for more than a day, it is even safe for 5 to 8 days. As per my experience, the breastmilk smells fresher in breastmilk bags compared to storage bottles if stored for more than a day. Breastmilk storage bags also consume lesser space than bottles.

To start the review, let us first compare the prices of each breastmilk bags:

Here are some pictures of the packaging and empty breastmilk bags:

Sunmum and BabyTooth have cute designs while Dula has a smart and plain design. Sunmum has 4 designs in 1 pack (mom and baby, different positions) while the BabyTooth has a different variant, there is also a BabyTooth Blue but I do not own one yet.

Here are the bags with breastmilk:

As you can see, I fail to remove the air from the bag, that's not the bag's problem, it is mine. hahaha. lol. I included the old Sunmum, that is the last piece I have and I forgot to take a picture of it while it is empty. As you can see, Dula, BabyTooth Green and the new Sunmum have a space on its side, it is for protection from side leakage. However, BabyTooth Green once leaked my milk on the upper part, near the ziplock. I don't want to be bad at them since I used a lot of BabyTooth Green and I only leaked once, so it is still a yes for me.

Here is my personal score sheet for the three breastmilk bags, (3 being the highest, 1 the lowest):

babytooth vs dula vs sunmum

Rationale:

  • Design:

  • BabyTooth has cute designs. The colors are bright and very lively. The print is nicely done.

  • Sunmum also has a fairly cute design, especially that they added the mom and baby character. Their pink colored theme is very relaxing to the eye. The print is also nicely done.

  • Dula has a smart and decent design. By giving it 1 I don't say I don't like it, I just prefer cute looking milk bags.

  • Thickness:

  • Dula is the thickest, it is crispy, it makes me think that it will break if I fold it.

  • BabyTooth is fairly thick.

  • I find Sunmum thin for a milk bag.

  • Plastic Quality:

  • Although Dula is the thickest, I prefer the quality of BabyTooth since I believe its quality fits the need for a breastmilk bag.

  • Sunmum is thin. It makes me feel that it is vulnerable.

  • Leakage Protection:

  • I think Dula has the most decent leakage protection. Although it has only two ziplocks, the thickness of the plastic and the side leak protection makes me feel that it is the safest breastmilk bag (Although I said I feel like it will break when folded).

  • BabyTooth and Sunmum score the same for me. Both have triple ziplock (except Green). Sunmum has side leak protection unlike BabyTooth. But BabyTooth outperforms Sunmum for its thickness.

  • Ability to Lay Flat:

  • I like the BabyTooth when flat, it is even and it can be stacked horizontally. It really saves space.

  • For the Sunmum, the bottom part cannot be flat. I think it is somehow deformed. I am always trying to fix it but it can't flat properly.

  • Since the Dula is the thickest, it is is the bulkiest when laid flat. If you will stack horizontally, you should alternate the position so that it will be even.

Bonus: Pouring into the bottle: I really find it hard to pour Sunmum into the bottle since I think it is thin. The direction of the bag while pouring is shaky. The easiest to pour for me is the Dula since, again, of its thickness, it is firm and easy to pour.

Also, I did not include the accuracy of the bags as all of them add atleast 1 oz.

Verdict!

The best among the three for me is BabyTooth. I know I mentioned that it once leaked my milk but I still love it. Nobody's perfect right? Looking at the positive side, I think I already consumed about a hundred BabyTooth milk bags but I only leaked once. That is really a good ratio for me.

Specifically, I love BabyTooth for these reasons:

  • The quality of the plastic is just right --- thick, but not too thick.

  • It has triple ziplock (except for the Green variant).

  • The designs are cute.

  • It can be laid flat.

I just wish they will also put side leak protection so it will be perfect. Dula and Sunmum are also a good breastmilk bags brand. Actually, I am using all three because you know, pumping moomas can relate!

That's all. Thank you for reading. Feel free to message me or ask me about anything so that I can also add a FAQ section on this page. Thank you very much! Happy pumping!
